Popstar, TV star, model, brand ambassador, presenter and most recently star of Real Housewives of Sydney. The iconic Australian talent, Melissa Tkautz, will not be defined by one thing and has enjoyed success in a huge three decades.
Melissa launched onto the scene way back as Nicki Spencer on the classic tv show E-Street and then totally shook up her image with THAT era defining track ‘Read My Lips’. We did, and the rest is history.
Markus chats by phone to Melissa and they talk about her experience on RHOS plus her new music. Read on.
Markus – Hey Melissa, good afternoon, and welcome again to SceneTV. How are you today?
Melissa – It’s sooooo cold! But great to be speaking to you.
Markus – Oh, don’t talk to me about cold, it was -3 in Adelaide today. We practically entered the ice age again.
Melissa – Oh noooo, now that’s cold. I shall not complain.
Markus – So, Melissa, Season 1 of RHOS has wrapped up and let’s straight up address the labels you were at one point given… ‘Boring’ & ‘Vanilla’. How did that make you feel hearing that.
Melissa – It was so blown up, really frustrating. I was just being myself and really if that’s how I looked stacked up against some of the others on the show, well I’m fine with that. I was honestly being myself. With all the drama that was often created it’s not hard for that to over-shadow, you know what I mean.
Markus – It was quite a dramatic season, how horrified by some of the things that were going on were you?
Melissa – Some of the stuff was really just below the belt kind of stuff. I really tried to stay away from the dramas, I mean, some of the things that were getting said and the character assignations were really like I said, below the belt. I kept it pretty quiet during most of those times and didn’t get involved, it’s just not my style.
Markus – Is there talk of season 2 yet and would you sign up again if that contacted you?
Melissa – I would very much be a part of it again if they asked me, yes. As far as if it’s officially happening there is still no word. Let’s see what happens. It was in all a fun experience so why not right.
Markus – What would be the lowest moment of the show.?
Melissa – Really when there is a lack of respect and not treating people correctly. I can’t deal with that.
Markus – So your proudest moment of the show?
Melissa – When I got to sing. There were lots of good moments. But singing definitely was the highlight. So much fun.
Markus – Let’s move on to the music a new single ‘The Key’. How do you feel putting our your next musical installment?
Melissa – Oh it’s great to release new music. Always. I’m really proud of this track and I’ve released it for my fans and for myself. I’m very happy with it.
Markus – So with the single is there an imminent album to follow?
Melissa – I very much want to do a new album. It’s just timing. There is so much going on right now. We’re currently doing the next single. And if season 2 of RHOS happens that will takeover. But possibly the album could happen next year. But you never know, see what happens.
Markus – Do we get to see you in Adelaide soon performing the clubs or venues with the new music?
Melissa – I really hope so. I love coming to Adelaide, I always have so much fun and I’ve got my fans there. I’ll speak to my manager. We’ll make it happen.
Markus – The new movie you starred in with John Jarret & Hugh Sheridan ‘Boar’ is eagerly awaited. Do they have a release date yet?
Melissa – Hasn’t been announced as yet, but looks like it will be around September this year. I’m really excited to see it and have it out there. It was a wonderful experience.
Markus – And wrapping it up your also about to re-release your candle range MelT.
Melissa – Yeah, we released them originally last year and they went really well so I’ve decided to re-release them again later this year. I love candles, I have memories of my grandmother having them all around the house and they have stuck with me since. I can’t wait to bring them out again. It’s just a side line for me but also they mean something personally special to me. I have them burning around me constantly.
Markus – Great, well, thanks Melissa for chatting with us. All the best with the new music and hope to see you in Adelaide performing soon.
Melissa – Thank you for having me and supporting me. I look forward to visiting Adelaide soon.
